Country Living Goals for 2010?

What are your country living goals for 2010? Are you planning a move this year? Going off-grid? Planting a garden for the first time or simplifying your life? I'm interested in hearing others' plans, dreams and goals. I'm asking because the more I talk with others interested in country living, the more new ideas I encounter and the more I learn.

Rekindling the Reformation

Spiritualism--What Is It.pdf

I hope that all of you have seen--or will soon watch--the DVD series, Rekindling the Reformation, by Walter Veith.

He starts by showing how, even in the very historical sites of Protestantism, knowledge of what Protestantism consists of has been lost.

Later in the program, he goes into the topic… Continue

Survival Tool for the Homestead--Hand Cranked Oil Expeller

http://www.piteba.com/eng/index_eng.htm

Based on WWII relics found in European museums, then improved--here is something that all of us will find interesting. Go to the site and read it. Videos are available so you can see it in action.

This hand-cranked press can process nuts and seeds (sunflower, rape, flax) into oil that can be used for food, lighting, lubrication, and such things as wood finish or soap-making.

The Amish are much healthier than the rest of America

Interesting article, thought I'd share with you.
So sad that not more of SDA's lived as such or were talked about this way. It proves this kind of life style is better.

They're known for using horse-drawn buggies, avoiding modern conveniences, and wearing old-fashioned clothing. But do the Amish possess something that the rest of us don't, primarily a lifestyle that prevents disease and leads to a better quality of life? According to a recent study published in the journal Cancer Causes and Co… Continue

Watch and Pray

I was reading from Desire of Ages, pages 633, 634 as part of my devotion a few days ago and once again was impressed by the fact that we can hasten the coming of Christ by giving the gospel to the world. Then the warning admonition was next given for us to "watch and pray". In fact, there are several instances in scripture that give that warning:

Mark 13:33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.
Mat 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit ind… Continue

Eyewitness from Austria

By: Kitty Werthmann

What I am about to tell you is something you’ve probably never heard or will ever read in history books. I believe that I am an eyewitness to history. I cannot tell you that Hitler took Austria by tanks and guns; it would distort history. We elected him by a landslide – 98% of the vote. I’ve never read that in any American publications. Everyone thinks that Hitler just rolled in with his tanks and took Austria by force.

In 1938, Austria was in deep Depression. Nearly one-th… Continue

Psalm 92:11

Psalm 92--A Psalm or Song for the Sabbath day.
1. It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:
2. To show forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,
3. Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.
4. For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.

“God's word has given warning of the impending danger; let this be… Continue

Interesting Statistics Regarding Education and Industry

This is most of an e-mail that my Dad received.

A couple of months ago, I was flying home from a business trip and happened to be seated next to the national sales manager for Eaton/Vickers Hydraulics.

During the course of our conversation I learnt that Eaton now has over 300 engineers at their facility in Pune, India. And this facility is rapidly becoming Eaton's global technical center.

My initial reaction to this was "WOW", but upon reflection this is not surprising at all. It's totally co… Continue

Conquering Fear of the Unknown

Facing Fear

It seems that one of the great obstacles to getting out of the city–next to debt–is simply fear of the unknown. Job said, “The cause that I knew not, I searched out.” Job 29:16. So, if lack of knowledge is the cause of our fear, would not searching for the particular knowledge we lack help to eliminate the fear, and speed our progress toward our goal?

Some common fears:

How will I make a living in the country?

Will I be isolated?

What about bears?

What if it is cold?

Other thi… Continue

EarthTronics wind turbine even in low wind speeds

(NaturalNews) A Michigan company named EarthTronics has developed a small-scale wind turbine that could be used to generate electricity at home in winds as low as two miles per hour. The company is calling it "the highest output, lowest cost per [kilowatt hour] installed turbine ever made."

Even with growing interest in wind power worldwide, the U.S. market for home wind turbines remains small, less than 0.002 percent of the national market. According to the American Wind Energy Association (AW… Continue

Our Country Living Experience

Our Country Living Story

Mom and Dad were both raised in the country--in Utah, Washington, and Oregon; and Mexico, respectively. In Africa, we were at a self-supporting mission, where my dad was the farm mechanic, and Mom was involved in sewing and teaching grade school. While there, they were married, and I was born.

Coming back, our first stop was in Rexburg, Idaho, where Dad took Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic's training, and worked for Case on farm tractors. My sister was born the… Continue

Seed Catalogs

Some companies are already sending out their seed catalogs for next year, are you on their mailing lists? It will be time to order seeds soon and get them started for early spring transplanting, especially if you are planting cool season crops like broccoli and cabbage.

A personal favorite seed company is Renee's Garden Seeds. I like the variety of unique seeds available and they have grown well for me both in California and here in East Texas. Many se… Continue

Racism and Rural Areas

Regarding the race issue--

I would be more concerned about the racial element in the city environment than in the country. Also, I think it is worse back in the former Confederate States of America, where so many are still ready to wave the stars and bars. There are elements in this nation that are building a tremendous amount of violent force, that will largely spend itself in the cities. Race wars are among these winds of strife. The ongoing element is the criminal, gang-related one, and gang… Continue

The Lord is Your Helper

THE LORD, YOUR HELPER, IS HERE

SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 7:7-13 The Israelites were badly frightened when they learned that the Philistines were approaching. “Plead with the LORD our God to save us from the Philistines!” they begged Samuel. So Samuel took a young lamb and offered it to the LORD as a whole burnt offering. He pleaded with the LORD to help Israel, and the LORD answered. Just as Samuel was sacrificing the burnt offering, the Philistines arrived for battle. But the LORD spoke with a might… Continue

Don't Take the City With You_ Christian Berdahl

As I worked on my chores around the house this morning, I listened to this message from Christian Berdahl at his Shepherd's Call Ministry website. Very plainly spoken and convicting! Don't Take the City With You. It's the first message in the list of downloads. Have a Blessed Sabbath!

Walking through the flames...

Here is an interesting report someone sent us. When I was in Mexico in February, the Sabbath question was being pressed hard, since the school week was being expanded to include Saturday. Mexico does have compulsory public schooling, and does not recognize homeschool. But those in remote areas are often able to slip through the cracks. This was to be effective in March. Many there have been raised in the city, and are quite clueless regarding how to survive in rural or wilderness areas.

I was d… Continue

USDA Rural Development Home Loans

I just spent the day scouting out potential country properties in my area with a friend. She is a single mom desiring to get her children out of the city. We have agreed to pray that the Lord opens doors for her to move as soon as possible, but she is doing her part as well. She has worked hard cleaning up her credit and and working towards becoming debt free. Although one bank has already qualified her for much more, we looked at lower end fixer uppers where she could pay off the home as quickl… Continue

IV Vitamin C Treatment for Swine Flu

IV Vitamin C Used to Recover Terminal Swine Flu Case

Dr. Thomas Levy sent me a case report where vitamin C was used to completely cure a case of swine flu. He says that adequately dosed vitamin C, to his knowledge, has never failed to cure an acute viral syndrome.

According to information he received from a colleague in New Zealand, John Appleton, the following occurred:

A Waikato farmer went to Fiji for a holiday and started developing… Continue
