EarthTronics wind turbine even in low wind speeds

(NaturalNews) A Michigan company named EarthTronics has developed a small-scale wind turbine that could be used to generate electricity at home in winds as low as two miles per hour. The company is calling it "the highest output, lowest cost per [kilowatt hour] installed turbine ever made."

Even with growing interest in wind power worldwide, the U.S. market for home wind turbines remains small, less than 0.002 percent of the national market. According to the American Wind Energy Association (AW… Continue

Our Country Living Experience

Our Country Living Story

Mom and Dad were both raised in the country--in Utah, Washington, and Oregon; and Mexico, respectively. In Africa, we were at a self-supporting mission, where my dad was the farm mechanic, and Mom was involved in sewing and teaching grade school. While there, they were married, and I was born.

Coming back, our first stop was in Rexburg, Idaho, where Dad took Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic's training, and worked for Case on farm tractors. My sister was born the… Continue

Seed Catalogs

Some companies are already sending out their seed catalogs for next year, are you on their mailing lists? It will be time to order seeds soon and get them started for early spring transplanting, especially if you are planting cool season crops like broccoli and cabbage.

A personal favorite seed company is Renee's Garden Seeds. I like the variety of unique seeds available and they have grown well for me both in California and here in East Texas. Many se… Continue

Racism and Rural Areas

Regarding the race issue--

I would be more concerned about the racial element in the city environment than in the country. Also, I think it is worse back in the former Confederate States of America, where so many are still ready to wave the stars and bars. There are elements in this nation that are building a tremendous amount of violent force, that will largely spend itself in the cities. Race wars are among these winds of strife. The ongoing element is the criminal, gang-related one, and gang… Continue

The Lord is Your Helper

THE LORD, YOUR HELPER, IS HERE

SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 7:7-13 The Israelites were badly frightened when they learned that the Philistines were approaching. “Plead with the LORD our God to save us from the Philistines!” they begged Samuel. So Samuel took a young lamb and offered it to the LORD as a whole burnt offering. He pleaded with the LORD to help Israel, and the LORD answered. Just as Samuel was sacrificing the burnt offering, the Philistines arrived for battle. But the LORD spoke with a might… Continue

Fear of the Unknown--an Obstacle--and a Stepping Stone

Facing Fear

It seems that one of the great obstacles to getting out of the city–next to debt–is simply fear of the unknown. Job said, “The cause that I knew not, I searched out.” Job 29:16. So, if lack of knowledge is the cause of our fear, would not searching for the particular knowledge we lack help to eliminate the fear, and speed our progress toward our goal?

Some common fears:

How will I make a living in the country?

Will I be isolated?

What about bears?

What if it is cold?

Other thi… Continue

Don't Take the City With You_ Christian Berdahl

As I worked on my chores around the house this morning, I listened to this message from Christian Berdahl at his Shepherd's Call Ministry website. Very plainly spoken and convicting! Don't Take the City With You. It's the first message in the list of downloads. Have a Blessed Sabbath!

Walking through the flames...

Here is an interesting report someone sent us. When I was in Mexico in February, the Sabbath question was being pressed hard, since the school week was being expanded to include Saturday. Mexico does have compulsory public schooling, and does not recognize homeschool. But those in remote areas are often able to slip through the cracks. This was to be effective in March. Many there have been raised in the city, and are quite clueless regarding how to survive in rural or wilderness areas.

I was d… Continue

USDA Rural Development Home Loans

I just spent the day scouting out potential country properties in my area with a friend. She is a single mom desiring to get her children out of the city. We have agreed to pray that the Lord opens doors for her to move as soon as possible, but she is doing her part as well. She has worked hard cleaning up her credit and and working towards becoming debt free. Although one bank has already qualified her for much more, we looked at lower end fixer uppers where she could pay off the home as quickl… Continue

IV Vitamin C Treatment for Swine Flu

IV Vitamin C Used to Recover Terminal Swine Flu Case
Posted by: Dr. Mercola
September 24 2009 | 41,491 views

Dr. Thomas Levy sent me a case report where vitamin C was used to completely cure a case of swine flu. He says that adequately dosed vitamin C, to his knowledge, has never failed to cure an acute viral syndrome.

According to information he received from a colleague in New Zealand, John Appleton, the following occurred:

A Waikato farmer went to Fiji for a holiday and started developing… Continue

"Our move into the country" Update

Hello my friends.
Here is my update regarding the blessing of us moving into the country with other Adventists. God is truly good to us and He has a way of leading in ways and manners which we know not of. Before I update, please allow me to set the stage by reminding us of how God got Joseph to Egypt in order to fulfill His plans. Now my update:

God has opened additional doors and worked it out so that we have located and joined a wonderful church that is strongly involved in evangelism outrea… Continue

The GC and the Country Living Message

Last year I heard the question asked,"How would the GC tell us that it is time to go to the country without tipping off non-adventists who know the message and want to persecute us?" Most SDAs, even those who profess to know SOP, know nothing of the country living message. (Of course, those of us who are on this website thoroughly believe in it.) This brings me to some things that I learned recently. First, Brad Thorp, who is an SDA pastor and the president of the Hope channel did a sermon on 10… Continue

Homestead Blessings DVD Series

Just wondering if anyone has this collection of DVDs. I'm always on the lookout for resources to improve my country living skills. They look pretty interesting and fairly non-threatening for someone who might be a novice in these areas. I'm particularly interested in the soapmaking dvd, it might be a good introduction to the art of soapmaking.

They can be ordered directly from the West Ladies webpContinue

Caves

Does anyone have information and experience particularly related to living in caves? If so, please share.

Especially in the more populated parts of this country, such as Kentucky, Tennessee, and elsewhere, the Lord has provided quite an abundance of caves. It seems that His people will need to use them. So, anything we can learn about how to preserve life, reduce physical stresses, and maintain health in these dark labyrinths, the better.

Issues specific to cave living-- providing light, provi… Continue

Now is a good time to stock up on canning jars!

Most stores that carry canning jars are trying to make room for holiday items, so be sure to check for jars, lids and rings on clearance. Today I picked up several cases of quart and pint jars at my local Tractor Supply Company for $3 each. Also, the canner racks, funnels and others supplies are often on clearance now, I find it helpful to have more than one set of these items.

Also, put the word out among the older ladies in your church and neighborhood, you may be surprised how many jars you… Continue

How the City hurts your brain

...And what you can do about it

By Jonah Lehrer
January 2, 2009

THE CITY HAS always been an engine of intellectual life, from the 18th-century coffeehouses of London, where citizens gathered to discuss chemistry and radical politics, to the Left Bank bars of modern Paris, where Pablo Picasso held forth on modern art. Without the metropolis, we might not have had the great art of Shakespeare or James Joyce; even Einstein was inspired by commuter trains.

Preparation

"...the thought came to me how the majority of us are so unaccustomed to thinking and planning for emergency situations..." --Noella

"Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them." Eze. 38:7.

"Behold, a King shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment. And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place,… Continue
